Salute to The Neighborhood House for their effort to bring awareness to gun violence in Milwaukee!

http://fox6now.com/2014/02/22/teens-at-the-neighborhood-house-work-to-end-gun-violence/

The Neighborhood house held a teen community forum: Gun Prevention Summit on Feb.22. The teens, under the supervision of Teen Program Coordinator James Austin, organized this event, after a recent shooting in their neighborhood.

The group of teenagers danced and preformed a skit depicting a real-life conflict and how quickly and easily it can escalate into gun violence.

The hostess of the event Maya McCullough explained the purpose of the skit to Fox6 News, “It will help make a picture in their minds so they can actually see what might go on at a scene of a shooting so they can connect in that way,”.  She explained that the goal was to; “To spread awareness of gun violence in Milwaukee, because people need to understand they have the power to stop it in their community.”

Guest speakers included several officers from district 3 and Mayor Tom Barret who spoke of statistics and making the right choices.

More moving and memorable, were the guest speakers who shared there own personal experiences.

A young man talked about how a trip to the gas station turned deadly for his uncle due to gun violence. He went on to preform a song he wrote, with the lyrics "I know we'll meet again... someday we'll meet again." and "If I die mama don't cry...we'll meet again."with so much emotion and conviction that I was deeply moved.

An amazing, inspiring, young woman spoke of having been shot in her face and upper chest with a shotgun. An innocent woman minding her own business in her own home. This beautiful woman spoke of how she felt so ugly for so long because of the physical and emotional scars that she was left with. She has since graduated with a bachelors degree and has 3 children with one about to enter college. Her attacker was recently released from prison. She said she used to fear running into him but she no longer does and that she has no hate towards him.

Program director Jame Austin talked about the "no- snitching rule" and encouraged young people to stand up and say something about gun violence.

Everyone was encouraged to Take the Pledge!

"I am a citizen of the city of Milwaukee. This is my home Gun violence nor violence of any kind is welcome here. I vow NEVER be a participant in any activity that will cause harm to myself, my family or my community. I will report it. This is my home. I take this pledge in honor of those who have lost their lives and to cherish the lives of those who are still living."

Topping off the event was a live performance by a local rapper Quintes "Que" Austin who gained national recognition for his anti-bullying song "Can't keep running away". Quintes has since appeared in Ebony, Jet, Billboard and on BET. Among other songs Quintes preformed S.T.O.P.

Props to the Neighborhood center and everyone who participated!

MPD used 40 homicide detectives to find a stolen violin!

With all the homicides in Milwaukee, Chief Flynn gave the order to  use 40 homicide detectives over the course of 10 days to search for a stolen VIOLIN!

"The case comes after years of Flynn downsizing the detective corps, from the department's full strength of nearly 250 to about 150. The chief recently promoted a class of about 30 detectives, but the department is still short about 60 to 70 detectives, according to Michael Crivello, head of the Milwaukee Police Association."

"There was an impact on court cases, according to the sources. Detectives were not available to meet with prosecutors preparing for trials. It didn't result in any suspects being released, but it slowed the prosecution, they said.

Milwaukee Assistant District Attorney Mark Williams, head of the homicide unit, declined to comment."

A man who brutally killed his family shows up on jury pool after release from Mendota

During a preliminary jury screening for a gun silencer trial, one member of the panel,Keith Kalota,  raised his hand when asked if anyone had ever been convicted of a crime. He had spent 16 years in Mendota Mental Health Institution for killing his family in 1987.

"...He was found not guilty by reason of mental disease — paranoid schizophrenia. Kalota had repeatedly stabbed his wife, Debra, 28; daughter, Constance, 4; and son, Jacob, 2, whose bodies were found huddled in a corner of their Milwaukee home. He told police God had told him to kill his family."

Both the defense attorney and the prosecutor asked that he be struck for cause and the judge agreed.

Assembly passes bill on police in-custody deaths probes

By Patrick Marley and Bill Glauber of the Journal Sentinel.  Feb. 19, 2014

"The state Assembly voted Tuesday night to end the long-standing practice of allowing police agencies to investigate their own officers when people die in custody.

The bill passed on a voice vote and goes to the Senate, where its fate is uncertain. Both houses are controlled by Republicans, but no GOP senator has signed on to the bill.

"The police custody bill would require a team of at least two investigators from an outside agency to lead investigations into such deaths. The bill also would require reports of custody death investigations statewide to be released to the public if criminal charges are not filed against the officers involved.

"The bill was prompted by the deaths of Paul Heenan, fatally shot by a Madison police officer outside his home last year; Derek Williams, who died after begging for help and gasping for breath in the back of a Milwaukee police squad car in 2011; and Michael Bell, shot in the head at close range by Kenosha police in his family's driveway in 2004. All three men were unarmed."

"A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel investigation of in-custody deaths in Milwaukee County over a five-year period found that while those reviews are labeled as "independent," pathologists, prosecutors and law enforcement rely on each other's conclusions — even when those conclusions are flawed — ensuring no one is held accountable when prisoners die.'

"This bill doesn't solve all the problems, it doesn't bring people's loved ones back, but it makes a difference for families," said Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison).

Update 2/15/2014:  Caleb Seay-Ali decided that on his first day working for the beer company, it would be a good idea to have Cornelius Turner rob the truck driver while Caleb played one of the victim. Sadly, it resulted in the death of Cornelius Turner, shot by M.P.D. after allegedly reaching in his waistband and pulling a Glock.

Now, MPD is charging Caleb Seay-Ali with felony murder in the death of his friend.

UPDATE: FOX6 Investigators’ exclusive interview with Kris Zocco’s jailmate, Tuesday on FOX6 News at 9.

Update: Fox6 news has revealed details about the upcoming exclusive interview with Kris Zocco's cellmate.

The cellmate wrote a 4 page letter to Fox6 news revealing never before told details of his conversations with Zocco.

Here's a few quotes...

“He had made comments I thought were, you know, not so smart comments about Kelly’s disappearance,” the former inmate told FOX6."

“He made a comment that she was ‘speed-balling’ and that she had got wasted,” said the inmate.
While in jail, Zocco allegedly said Kelly would never be found — and he referred to her in the past tense.

“He was open about it,” says the inmate."

Update: Conflicting stories from MPD regarding the officer related shooting that killed Cornelius Turner? You decide.

Update: This morning, I found an article and video from Fox6 that I hadn't seen before about a vigil for Cornelius Turner.   It was published on 2/2/2014. Here's that video...

"Turner’s family rejects the police account of what happened. They believe a neighbor, who says Turner dropped his weapon as he ran."

“My baby is gone. I’m never gonna see him again and it hurts me,” Turner’s mother, Lucrecia Beard Johnson said.

“They murdered my child. I know what my child did was wrong,” Johnson said.

“I would rather my baby be in jail for 10 years, 20 years. I coulda heard his voice. I coulda seen my baby,”  Lucrecia Johnson said."

Here is the article that I wrote concerning the discrepancies that I noticed in the MPDs account of what happened:

Conflicting stories by MPD? What do you think?

In the original Fox 6 article, Police Chief Flynn says that his officer had no other alternative then to shoot the suspect because, “During the struggle, the suspect reached into his waistband and pulled a loaded, semi-automatic black Glock pistol. The officer, fearing for his life, pulled out his sidearm and shot the suspect,”

http://fox6now.com/.../police-sources-say-officer.../

According to this more recent article by Fox6, The criminal complaint says that "Turner refused to remove his hands from his pocket," It says, "The officer pointed his service weapon at Turner and ordered him to show his hands. When Turner turned to face the officer, hand still in his pants, the officer fired three shots preventing Turner from pulling a gun on the officer.

Turner was pronounced dead at the scene. A gun found under his body was identified as a loaded .45 caliber pistol" http://fox6now.com/.../man-charged-with-felony-murder.../

So which was it Chief Flynn? Did he pull the gun out of his waistband or, did he have his hands in his pockets?

Update: Caleb Seay-Ali is being charged with felony murder of Cornelius Turner.

Update 2/15/2014:  Caleb Seay-Ali decided that on his first day working for the beer company, it would be a good idea to have Cornelius Turner rob the truck driver while Caleb played one of the victim.
